GTA 6 Release Date

Rockstar unveiled Grand Theft Auto VI with its first trailer in December 2023 and attached only a broad target of 2025. That was enough to set expectations sky-high after more than a decade without a mainline entry, but it was a window, not a date, and windows tend to move.

The first hard date came with the second trailer. On May 6, 2025, Rockstar released Trailer 2 and in the same announcement narrowed the launch to May 26, 2026. That date did not hold. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar announced a delay of just under six months, to November 19, 2026. The studio framed the move as a matter of polish, saying the extra time would let the team finish the game to the standard players expect.

A late-November Thursday places the game inside the holiday sales window, and a mid-week launch is a familiar Rockstar pattern. Rockstar has not described either as strategy, so we flag that as context, not as a fact. It is also worth remembering that a delay means something different for this studio. Red Dead Redemption 2 moved twice before it shipped to some of the best reviews of its generation.

Rockstar has given no sign of a third delay, and the business machinery is already running against it. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. A bonus is tied to ordering before November 20. A preload is scheduled for November 12, and the Launch Trailer, released on October 15, closes on the release date. Publishers rarely open pre-orders, attach dated bonuses and schedule preloads for a date they intend to abandon.

None of that is a guarantee. The only way the date changes is if Rockstar says so, and any “insider” claim of a new slip that does not come from the studio is a rumour. For the fan debate on both sides, see our community piece, will GTA VI get delayed again?
